Wildcats Fall to Bakersfield 9-2

The Anaheim Wildcats Squirt B team took one on the chops this past Sunday succumbing to the Dragons of Bakersfield by a final score of 9-2.

During the 1st period of play, the Wildcats were able to keep the 1st place Dragons scoreless by playing tough, aggressive defense and getting a solid performance by goaltender Rhett Bruckner. In the 2nd stanza though, the experienced Bakersfield team was finally able to pierce the Wildcats defense and throw 4 goals on the young Cats. The onslaught continued in the 3rd period as the Dragons threw another 3 goals on the home team to virtually put the game away. Following the Dragons 8th goal, Coach Jeff Bruckner pulled the younger Bruckner from goal and angrily discussed the importance of controlling his (Rhett's) anger in net. The Vince Lombardi tactic appeared to have an effect on the entire team as the Wildcats reeled off 2 consecutive goals, the 1st by Tatum Coats and the 2nd by Austin Hanshaw. Unfortunately for the Wildcats, time was not on their side to amount a major comeback.

Following the game, Wildcat defenseman Patrick Conroy stated, "My mother said that there would be days like these".

Cats Smother Avalanche

The Anaheim Wildcats continued their winning streak with an impressive 6- 2 victory over the hometown Artesia Avalanche. For their Sunday matchup, the Wildcats could only dress 8 players but their complete team effort proved insurmountable as the Wildcats stormed out of the gate to a 3-0 1st period advantage. In the 2nd period, the Avalanche mounted a full scale attack and narrowed the Wildcats lead to 1. But that was as close as the Avalanche would get as Wildcats struck back quickly as Tatum Coats scored the 1st of her 2 goals only 40 seconds after the 2nd Avalanche goal.

As noted earlier, a complete team game was played by the Wildcats as 5 of the 7 skaters garnered at least 1 point during the game. Ironman Jacob Furry scored a goal and added 2 assists, Austin Hanshaw scored 2 goals and an assist, Ben Snyder scored a goal and added an assist and Vail Ardizzone contributed an assist on the final Wildcat goal. Forward Matthew Knutson played one of his best games of the year as he started many of the Wildcat breakout plays and setup numerous scoring opportunities by working hard behind the opponents net. Defensive player Nolan Lahmon was once again a force in the Wildcat zone and was a wall on the offensive Blue line.

Wildcat Notes: Nolan Lahmon suffered a game ending injury at the beginning of the 3rd period as he sliced his finger on his skate during an Avalanche rush.

Goalie Rhett Bruckner lost his chance to win the Lady Bing award due to his 2 minute tripping penalty in the 2nd period. Fortunately for Rhett, he is now the front runner for the Dr. Richard Kimball award for his quote following the game as Bruckner stated "I'm completely innocent!! It was the one arm man that did it!!"
